The joint Fort Worth Police/TABC Stonewall-style raid of the Rainbow Lounge and the resulting arrests and hospitalization of Chad Gibson wasn’t the first time the TABC has abused its authority.
Just last month the TABC suspended stings operations involving minors after one of TABC’s own officers was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a juvenile during one of those programs last month.
Now, the Fort Worth police Chief Jeff Halstead has announced he is indefinitely suspending joint bar checks between the department and TABC. The chief also announced that he would make sure that all police officers receive multicultural training, with particular emphasis on dealing with the gay and lesbian community.
Chief Halstead has also posted a letter detailing his next steps for this.
And, today, Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief is calling on federal prosecutors Friday to review the raid.
You gotta think that this distancing between the police department and the TABC is a precursor to the uncovering of more evidence against the TABC.
