This is a great segment. The Today Show’s Darlene Rodriguez travels to Ohio to interview Richard Walsh, a Ohio teen who came out in 8th grade. Walsh talks about knowing he was gay, telling his parents, and the backlash he faced at his high school. Then Matt Lauer speaks to psychiatrist Dr. Charles Sophy about what parents should do if their teen comes out. His advice? Chill out, support your kid.
Great advice. And great that it was on a morning show.
Watch.

is he reinforcing the idea that sexuality is fluid and can be changed?

@ hereiamnyc,
I was sort of thinking the same thing, but I think what he’s trying to get at is that parents need to give them space to figure things out on their own so that they aren’t reinforcing one orientation over another.
