WATCH: Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” . . . And Woah! (Official Video)

[If the video above doesn't play, there is another one at the end of the post that should.]

Ah, I have missed me some Adele. I must have listened to “Chasing Pavements” from her album 19 at least 300,000 times. I mean, that voice!

Her newest single is “Rolling In The Deep” — a thumping, soaring, stomping song pounded out by a formerly brokenhearted lover who realizes that the heart ain’t broken anymore. In fact, while the formerly brokenhearted one wistfully recalls, “We could’ve had it all/Rolling in the deep,” she follows it with a clear understanding, finally, of what was done to her: “You had my heart inside your hand/And you played it to the beat.”

And, now, she is pissed. Adele sings, “Finally I can see you crystal clear/Go ahead and sell me out and I’ll lay your ship bare.”

The song is a dare to the heartbreaker to cause pain just one more time. One. More. Time. Pay special attention to the backup singers’ taunting in the background: “You’re gonna wish you never had met me/Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep.”

Yeah. There’s a deep power in realizing that your heart is whole again. And bigger than it ever was. And able to be used as a weapon. Of justice, of course. Sing it, Adele!

For any of you who have been put through the wringer by some motherfucker who enjoyed hurting you over and over, I believe you have a new anthem.

You’re gonna wish you never had met me. Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep.

Full lyrics below:

There’s a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch and it’s bringing me out the dark
Finally I can see you crystal clear
Go ahead and sell me out and I’ll lay your shit bare

See how I’ll leave with every piece of you
Don’t underestimate the things that I will do
There’s a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch and it’s bringing me out the dark

The scars of your love remind me of us
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless
I can’t help feeling

We could’ve had it all (you’re gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep (Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside your hand (you’re gonna wish you never had met me)
And you played it to the beat (Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)

Baby, I have no story to be told
But I’ve heard one of you and now I’m gonna make your head burn
Think of me in the depths of your despair
Making a home down there as mine sure won’t be shared

The scars of your love remind you of us (You’re gonna wish you never had met me)
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all (Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless (You’re gonna wish you never had met me)
I can’t help feeling (Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)

We could’ve had it all (You’re gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep (Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside your hand (You’re gonna wish you never had met me)
And you played it to the beat (Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)

We could’ve had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart inside your hand
But you played it with a beating

Throw your soul through every open door
Count your blessings to find what you look for
Turn my sorrow into treasured gold
You’ll pay me back in kind and reap just what you’ve sown

(You’re gonna wish you never had met me)
We could’ve had it all (Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
We could’ve had it all (You’re gonna wish you never had met me)
It all, it all, it all (Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)

We could’ve had it all (You’re gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep (Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside your hand (You’re gonna wish you never had met me)
And you played it to the beat (Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)

We could’ve had it all (You’re gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep (Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside your hand (You’re gonna wish you never had met me)

But you played it
You played it
You played it
You played it
to the beat

As a radio/broadcasting DJ here in the UK we’ve been mad over Adele for some time. I love and breathe rock and this cut just had enough in it to cross over between Manic Streets’ and Elbow’s latest releases.

One criticism on your review here. Did you forget or overlook the basic writing rule about who your readership is? In general, as homos, I doubt very much you truly have to be interpreting what the lyrics mean. We’re known as a sensitive lot and I believe most of us can pick-up on the meaning of a song on our first or second hearing.

    on a side note …
You may find this hard to believe, but there’s a whole sector, among our community, out there that have never been to or listen to Disco (and all it’s sub-forms). Here in the UK (Manchester & London) there’s quite a huge rock following among the homo community. Personally, I can proudly admit that I’ve never heard or listened to a Lady Caca cut yet.
