Video: Whitney Houston’s GMA Central Park Performance, With Daughter Bobbi Christina

Wed, Sep 2, 2009 by AKA William

whitney_houston_good_morning_americaMadonna isn’t the only one with a daughter!

Yesterday, Whitney Houston recorded a performance in Central Park for “Good Morning America.” The performance included “Million Dollar Bill” and “I Look To You” and “I’m Every Woman.” And Ms. Houston also performed “My Love Is Your Love” with a much-slimmer Bobbi Christina.

I’ve gathered performances filmed by “Good Morning America” and fans at the concert.

notice how different the version they showed on GMA sounded from the videos shot by fans that were actually there.

    shocking.
instead of lip synching, just sing live and have a production team fly in album vocals overnight.

    sad.

She also performed “I’m Every Woman.”

    @ Branden,

She sure did! I just updated the post with the video.

Okay. I just wanted to let you know.

Wow. How can you not hold this against her former self? She sounded terrible. Though she clearly isn’t going to set the charts on fire (who over the age of 21 does nowadays?) I still wish her good and I hope for her sake that this was just a bad day and she performs somewhere else sounding closer to her amazing former self.

she will set the charts on fire, actually…but probably only for one week.
early numbers show that I Look To You should have no problem clinching the No. 1 spot on the upcoming Top 200 Albums chart.
    we’ll see.
    :]

  7. Nate Says:

    @Pork,
Exactly, without a doubt she’ll debut at number 1 but staying within the top ten, heck even 20 will be the bigger challange and I don’t think she’ll make it.

I’ve avoided watching this for a couple days, just because of all the negative stuff I heard about it right after it aired. But… after seeing all these comments, I couldn’t resist.

I watched the clips in reverse order. Starting with “I’m Every Woman.” She sounds physically strained in that song… and she was running around and bouncing up and down. Even still, her voice very thin.

But then as you go back, by the time you get to “Million Dollar Bill,” she sounds totally passable. No, Whitney Houston is not the 20 year old ingenue we all fell in love with. She’s been through it. She was on the brink of a complete physical and mental breakdown just two years ago. The fact that she was able to get up in front of all those people and perform live, looking FLAWLESS, is really saying something.

Yes, it hurts my heart to know how beautiful her voice used to be. But… as someone who’s never even called himself a Whitney fan, I’m really happy to see her back. She’s doing what she can with what she’s got. And she’d doing it with a smile on her face. There are people selling millions of records, at number one for much longer than a week, who could not pull off the live performance she just did. Give her a break. She’s alive and healthy. (And honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her look better.)
