Joined onstage by NYC Mayor Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Governor David Paterson announced, with a great speech, the re-introduction of the New York gay marriage bill.
Paterson effortlessly, but consciously, folded gay marriage into the civil rights family, stating, “Rights should not be stifled by fear.” He went on to say that discrimination against gays is the same thing as discrimination against someone based on race, religion, gender, national origin, and disability.
And, now he’s a Republican again, Bloomberg’s presence must be sending a message to the GOP higher-ups.
Honestly, this is exactly the speech I wanted to hear.
Watch it after the jump.
