University Study: Children’s Cartoons Not Gay Enough

Fri, Jul 3, 2009

daisy-duck-and-minnie-mouseI always did want my Saturday mornings to have more gayness going on. And I was right to want a break from all the straightness! From a new University of Michigan study:

Despite the assumption that children’s media are free of sexual content, our analyses suggest that these media depict a rich and pervasive heterosexual landscape,” said a report in Gender & Society, a publication of the Sociologists for Women in Society.

Researchers looked at the most successful G-rated movies between 1990-2005 and concluded that kids’ films “construct heterosexuality” via “depictions of hetero-romantic love as exceptional, powerful, transformative, and magical . . . . ”

“Characters in love are surrounded by music, flowers, candles, magic, fire, balloons, fancy dresses, dim lights, dancing and elaborate dinners,” the report noted. “Fireflies, butterflies, sunsets, wind and the beauty and power of nature often provide the setting for – and a link to the naturalness of – hetero-romantic love.” [I Hate The Media]

And with all the gay animals out there, we know how natural gayness is!

Now, I Hate The Media, which looks pretty Republican, seems to think this is a bad idea. I, however, kind of love it.

I also love the very NSFW site Just Cartoon Dicks that ratchets up the gay cartoon factor to XXX levels. Seriously.
