Okay, so on this frigid New York City day (it’s 18 degrees out right now), a beach story is just the thing, right? Especially one about a man who traps himself while hiking down to an infamous gay/nude beach in San Diego (my hometown). For those of you who haven’t been to Black’s before, let me explain how it’s possible that someone would have to be helicoptered to safety while attempting to go to the beach.

Rescuers had to come to the aid of a person who was trapped on the cliffs above San Diego’s Blacks Beach on Tuesday. The victim appeared to have accidentally hiked down into a crevice from which there was no route down to the beach. Lifeguards came to the trapped person’s aid at about 11:30 a.m. after setting up a secure line above . A rescuer then rappelled down to the trapped person, and the victim was buckled into the safety rope. The pair then made it safely down to the beach, with nobody appearing to have been injured.

In order to get to Black’s Beach, one of San Diego’s prettiest beaches, you have to hike down a nearly vertical cliff, which weeds out all but the most determined beach-goers. The hike down takes about 20 minutes, and there is a well-worn and dusty “trail” created by the thousands of gay lovin’, nude seekin’ brave beach-goers. You must stick to the trail, otherwise you really do risk falling hundreds of feet down to the beach itself. (See pic above). The only reason to veer from the beaten path is because you’re looking for some other kind of excitement. It really is a choice between life and death, and the only thing that would override one’s survival instinct is one’s dick instinct. Here are some comments from the NBC San Diego website:

Mmmhmm. What lesson did we learn from this near-tragedy? If you’re feeling randy, bring a cell-phone, just in case.
