“Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives” Star And Tribeca Film Festival Respond To GLAAD

Yesterday I wrote about GLAAD’s call for the Tribeca Film Festival to remove Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives. Although the filmmakers describe the movie this way . . .

A group of transgender women are violently beaten by three straight guys and left for dead. After regaining their consciousness, the violated vixens turn deadly divas. With their newfound confidence and courage, the ticked-off trannies slice their way to vengeance.

An homage to the exploitation/revenge films of the 70’s and 80’s, “Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives” is loaded with titillating dialog, buckets of blood…and extreme violence.

“A transploitation revenge fantasy!”

. . . GLAAD had to this to say in its call to action:

Because of its positioning as a transgender film, viewers unfamiliar with the lives of transgender women will likely leave this film with the impression that transgender women are ridiculous caricatures of “real women.” It demeans actual transgender women who struggle for acceptance and respect in their day-to-day lives and to be valued for their contributions to our society.

Now, the Tribeca Film Festival and at least one star of the film have responded to GLAAD, and GLAAD isn’t coming across all that great. Says the TFF:

The filmmakers provided a copy of this film to GLAAD in February, and for weeks the organization had been supportive to the filmmakers. In fact, GLAAD representatives advised the film’s producer, director and cast on how to describe the film to its core constituency.

Tribeca is proud of its ongoing commitment to bring diverse voices and stories to its audiences, and looks forward to the film’s premiere at our Festival next month.

And one of the stars of the film, Willam Belli, commented in a post on Movieline:

I’m in this movie and it’s awesome.
GLAAD has flat out lies on their website. they knew about this movie a while ago. they weren’t “just alerted.”
Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives is Kill Bill for the GLBT set and is scary where it should terrify, funny when there’s jokes (about appropriate material) and wham-bam-glam in the action sequences.

The trailer mentions the hate crimes. The movie does not. I think the trailer mentions them to bring to light that stuff like what is in the movie actually happens and hopefully will not again.

These large LGBT organizations always seem just one step behind, don’t they. I don’t know if it’s because they are too large to be as nimble as they need to be, or it’s a problem with the leadership, or something else, but fracturing the LGBT community — as they have once again done with this — while obfuscating their own involvement makes all of us LGBTs just a little bit more wary of Gay, Inc.

And below, the trailer.
