“The September Issue” opened this weekend with huge numbers:

[It] grossed a massive $240,078 from six New York screens, giving it an average of $40,013. That’s the second-best per-theater-average of any 2009 release (behind “Sunshine Cleaning”) and the fifth best documentary debut ever.
I saw it yesterday, and I really enjoyed it. It’s an entirely different animal than “The Devil Wears Prada,” which is kind of all-time favorite for me. Here’s what I loved about “September:” It focused on the work and the artistry rather than the glamour of fashion. And as big as Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is, the real star of the documentary is the magazine’s creative director, Grace Coddington.
Something else I found . . . charming? Wintour’s daughter Bee Shaffer was completely disinterested in a fashion career.
“Is anyone coming to this run-through . . . except me?”
