As promised, “Democratic” NY State Senator Ruben Diaz yesterday rallied 10,000 anti-gay evangelicals in front of Gov. Paterson’s office.
The good gay response to this particular demonstration was a little disappointing, according to Joe.My.God, who estimated about 60 people in that crowd, although they included recently-DADT-discharged Lt. Dan Choi.
The numbers there were probably a little low because of the AIDS Walk and Broadway Impact’s own gay marriage rally in Times Square. And that’s where our numbers went way up.
Joining the thousands who rallied there for gay equality were were Gov. David Paterson, Cynthia Nixon, Mayor Bloomberg, NY Assemblyman Daniel O’Donnell, Cheyenne Jackson, Kristen Davis, Empire State Pride Agenda executive director Alan van Capelle, Gavin Creel, David Hyde-Pierce, and Audra MacDonald.
NY State Senate Majority Leader Malcolm has said that he won’t bring the bill before the Senate unless he has the 32 votes needed to pass the bill — right now we have around 26. “There are 18 days left in the Senate session,” said Thomas K. Duane, the Senate’s only openly gay member. “I need your help.”
After the jump, videos of the anti-gay evangelicals. And, better, videos of speeches and performances by Gov. Paterson, Cheyenne Jackson, and the cast of Hair.
