Roskoff’s Raucous Politics: Bloomberg – Spinning For Mayor

Mon, Oct 26, 2009 by AKA William

Equal Benefits Bill

Michael Bloomberg vetoed City Council legislation to require City contractors to provide domestic partner benefits to their workers if they provide marital benefits. When the Council overrode his veto, he successfully challenged the right of the Council even to make such a policy.

Discriminatory Parades

Michael Bloomberg marches in ethnic parades that exclude LGBT members of ethnic groups from participating, particularly the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Fifth Avenue which is run by a group that refers to gay people as “perverts.” He also refuses to march the full length of the LGBT Pride Parade, always starting south of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in the Giuliani tradition of criticizing the LGBT community as disrespectful of the Catholic Church.

NYPD’S false arrests of gay men

Restaurateur Florent Morellet says that “as a gay person” that “there is nowhere in the world better to live than a New York City under Mayor Bloomberg’s leadership.” Florent obviously hasn’t had the misfortune to be one of the scores of middle-aged gay men falsely arrested by Mike’s NYPD for prostitution in his zeal to close porn shops; arrests that Mike did not condemn when questioned about this outrageous miscarriage of justice.

Florent says Bloomberg did a great job improving the Meat Market area. What does that have to do with the community’s struggle for civil rights?

To further support the Republican Party’s Michael Bloomberg, Florent states in the newspaper Chelsea Now of October 9th 2009, “The former Meat Market mainstay (Florent Morellet) went on to call the entire Democratic Party a bunch of ‘tired hacks who pander to special interests.’” Perhaps we Democratic Party Hacks should stay away from his pending new eatery. Let the Republicans eat there, after all he supports their candidate for Mayor and has only contempt for us Democrats.

President Obama

Michael Bloomberg, in one of the most critical elections of our time, refused to endorse Barack Obama for election and told Republican leaders in the City that he supported his friend, John McCain. Bloomberg also supported President Bush who wanted to amend the Constitution to ban same sex marriage in this country.

I clearly intend to vote for Bill Thompson for Mayor on November 3rd. If you want to advance LGBT and progressive issues, and democratic values, please join me by voting for the Democrat–Bill Thompson for Mayor New York City.

Too bad that AKA William now let’s bitter Democratic operators be a Political Director. Mr. Roskoff obviously has some beef with Mr. Bloomberg, maybe because he worked for Mark Green when he was beaten by Bloomberg.
I guess you can discuss Bloomberg’s support for LGBT issue, I am okay with it, he seems to be quite fair-minded (also in his company by the way).
Democrats should rather explain why we don’t have marriage equality in NY yet, despite the fact that they have the majority in house and senate in Albany. It’s not Mike Bloomberg it’s Democratic politicians that are holding up equality.
But I guess Mr Roskoff is more out to take verbal revenge against Mr. Bloomberg. That plum job in 2001 was just so close…

Thank you, Allen for making it all so clear for me. We need this information and anyone for whom this information is crucially important should take it into account when voting next Tuesday. Bravo! I also note the Bloomberg ad on the website page, and his ads are pasted everywhere. Bloomberg has tried to buy this election. People: Don’t let him do it!

Bloomberg has been consistently and viciously homophobic. No self respecting queer would even seriously think of voting for that bigot.
