I don’t think the Bash Back people are morons. I think they are upset about the mainstream lgbt groups putting critical issues like healthcare reform, police abuse, discrimination, and employment discrimination on the backburner while pushing marriage almost exclusively, when the vast majority of queers have no desire to ever get married and don’t get married in the states where same sex marriage is legal.
The lgbt movement’s institutional side is getting way out of touch of the concerns of the middle class, the poor, and the near poor. I don’t agree with BB’s tactics, and I strongly disagree with their opposition to hate crimes laws. I just wish there was a way to get the lgbt movement back on track and more focused on the issues that effect the overwhelming majority of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.
I am so sick of platitudes, fancy dinners, and desperate attempts to kiss up to homophobes. I want something much better from our movement.
