Police are now investigating at least one hate crime on the campus of DePaul, the Catholic University in Chicago.
On February 4, Patrick Stewart says he had just left the campus theater building when three men attacked him at 4 a.m. All were wearing hooded jackets. One had a mask on. “They were calling me things like queer and fag,” Stewart said. “That person and two other people just started kicking me and punching me and like I was pinned to the ground, so I couldn’t really go anywhere.”
Then, just a few days ago posters featuring a Palestinian guest speaker appearing before a Jewish student organization were defaced. Some posters had swastikas drawn over the speaker’s face. On others, a person drew a Hitler-like mustache.
The Chicago Police Department’s Hate Crime Division and the DePaul Public Safety Department are investigating both incidents.
