Pat Robertson Spreads Lies About The New Hate Crimes Legislation

Fri, Oct 30, 2009 by AKA William

pat_robertson_liarRandomly I caught this segment when it aired. I don’t know why I’m still shocked at this kind of thing, but I really am. Pat Robertson spread deliberate lies about the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Act, saying, “You know, there’s a law – what about a law that says it’s a federal crime to attack somebody because of his religious beliefs? Not a chance! . . . The noose has tightened the noose around the necks of Christians . . . and it was all embodied in something called the Hate Crimes Bill.”

Thing is, the new legislation protects religion:

(1) IN GENERAL.—At the request of State, local, or tribal law enforcement agency, the Attorney General may provide technical, forensic, prosecutorial, or any other form of assistance in the criminal investigation or prosecution of any crime that — (C) is motivated by prejudice based on the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability of the victim, or is a violation of the State, local, or tribal hate crime laws.

Watch the misinformation spread.

Religion was protected long before this bill was enacted. This legislation added gender, sexual orientation, and disability to a variety of other groups including religion.

Osama bin Robertson spreading lies? I’m shocked…..so shocked.
