I saw this reports of this sign a few days ago and wanted to post about it today. And as I was researching what was going on with it, I came across a post over on Rod. 2.0. And it turns out that he’s all over this story.
The billboard, it turns out, is in the Central Texas town of Gatesville, pop. 15,000. For $300 retired black minister Oen Dollins rented the sign that reads, “Gay Rights are Not Civil Rights.” The sign owner, Virginia Miller, said that Dollins didn’t mean to offend anyone, “He wanted to get the message to black people that it’s not fair that they’re the ones who suffered, they’re the ones who paid the price, and now everything they fought for is being hijacked.” Miller said.
The sign ran for three days. Miller says that during that time she received death threats.
Maybe I’ll send both Mille and Dollins my take on why gay rights ARE civil rights.

Can we please stop the victim game? Blacks AND gays AND women AND many others have suffered from hatred for centuries. One group’s pain doesn’t negate anyone else’s. You’d hope that a personal experience of discrimination would make you more sympathetic to that of others, but…
Besides, I’m a Jew, so I win the game. *joking!*
