“Oy Vey! My Son Is Gay!”

Tue, Nov 10, 2009 by AKA William

ohveyLast week I was supposed to attend the New York opening of the new movie, “Oh Vey! My Son Is Gay!” but, well, have you ever had your back go out? I hadn’t either, until last week. So, being spasmatic and all, I asked my friend Marcus of Where’s Rory to hit the red carpet for me and AKA William.

This is what “Oy Vey” is all about:

A romantic comedy featuring a Jewish family who struggles coming to terms with their son’s non-Jewish and gay boyfriend. When the gay couple adopts a child and it makes headline news, their families come to defend them and realize how much they love them.

I’m doubly sorry about that night because a) yes, I was temporarily walking like a 96-year-old-lady, but b) months ago, when I first heard about the movie, I was afraid it was going to be one of those questionable gay movies. You know the kind that’s all heart and no head? But after reading Marcus’s review and hearing people talk about it, it looks like the movie hit the right notes, which, let’s face it, ain’t easy for a gay movie.

Pics of the quippy stars, plus the trailer.

Marcus chatted up some of the stars.

Jai Rodriguez, who plays the boyfriend Angelo, said he is addicted to “The Real Housewives Atlanta.” (I would loved to know if he’s, Team NeNe of Team Kandi).

John Lloyd Young, who plays Nelson the lead character, is, in the Oscar tradition, apparently, not gay. But he does kung fu and stretching as his workout.

The movie is still looking for a distributor, so if you see it in your city, go!

Oh, and the NYC premiere was presented by amfAR.org

  1. Marcus Says:

Hey Will, I hope your back is doing better! I wish we could’ve gone together, that would have been such a blast. Next time we will tag team for sure :)

And let’s not forget a very special thank you to David (David@MYPRnyc.com) for not only inviting us but for really making sure the event went off without a hitch! I witnessed his “make it happen” magic first hand!
