Yesterday, on the day he was scheduled to appear with his son at a preliminary hearing in the hate crime murder of Lawrence King, the father of 15-year-old murder defendant Brandon McInerney was found dead at his home in Silver Strand after what appeared to be an accidental fall.
William McInerney, 45, died from blunt-force head injury, said Dr. Janice Frank, the Ventura County assistant medical examiner who conducted an autopsy of the body.
Frank said a contributing cause of death was alcoholism.
William McInerney himself had just been released from jail 8 days earlier, and had been seen around the neighborhood the day before he was found dead walking around in a “drunken stupor”. A neighbor speculates that he was drinking because of his son’s coming court date.
William McInerney was in the process of trying to sell his home, so that he could pay the associated legal fees resulting from Brandon’s arrest. Upon news of the death of William McInerney, the judge instead decided to postpone Brandon McInerney’s hearing until April. [Ventura County Star]
