Today, on a surprise visit to Baghdad, President Obama spoke briefly to about 600 troops who had gathered, thanking them for their service and touting as an “extraordinary achievement” the progress Iraq has made since the 2003 American invasion and subsequent occupation.
Obama spoke for only six minutes, saying he wanted to spend more time shaking hands, then waded into the crowd of cheering troops. [Politico]
