Yes, it’s Wednesday, but due to technical issues yesterday, we couldn’t get “New Music Tuesday” up until today.
If you’re on the East Coast, you can’t help but notice that not only is summer over, but winter is on the way! Know what that means? Christmas albums! I LOVE CHRISTMAS! David Archuleta’s offering is called Christmas from the Heart while Bob Dylan gives us Christmas in the Heart. The titles might sound alike and they might even sound like they’d actually sound alike. They don’t. Even though they contain many of the same songs. Oh Come, All Ye Faithful. Let’s go caroling.
First we have to address a non-Christmas release. Definitely worthy of further inspection this week is Bad Lieutenant and their debut album Never Cry Another Tear. Now, Bad Lieutenant may not sound familiar in name, but it will sound familiar in sound as just about all of New Order (minus Peter Hook, plus Alex James and Jake Evans) comprise this new band with the familiar sound. The first single, “Sink Or Swim” will bring us right up to speed. Not many voices make me as warm and nostalgic as Bernard Sumner’s so I’ll be finding this album today however I can.

I LOVE CHRISTMAS! (Did I already mention that?) If I hear just one sleigh bell in a song, I’m ready for thermals, hot chocolate and Christmas tunes. David Archuleta’s Christmas from the Heart very well may become a regular part of my seasonal soundtrack. Just listen to these snippets and I think you’ll be joining me in making this an annual. Tasteful, classic arrangements matched with David’s timeless vocal style. His voice could make me feel warmer than a crackling fire on a freezing winter night. Jump onboard and join me on the David Archuleta train.
Okay, the Bob Dylan Christmas album is definitely worth listening to, but it might scare the children. Bob sounds like he’s singing with the chestnuts roasted on the open fire in his mouth. Each breath/gasp for breath also seems like it could be his last. Do I still love it? Kind of! (Although it sort of comes off like a spooky Halloween album.) Feast your ears on these samples. (Send the kids out of the room first.)
Sidenotes:
Grant-Lee Phillips (of Grant Lee Buffalo) releases a new one today.
Natalie Imbruglia does the same.
This week is also time for a new Christmas album from Mr. Neil Diamond. It’s called A Cherry, Cherry Christmas. That’s really all I have to say on that one. :]
You can also get your hands on a copy of Michael Jackson’s 1988 autobiography, Moonwalk, which they have reprinted and released. I suggest you do.
That’s all for now, kids. Just hear those sleigh bells jinglin’…
Til next week…keep on…with the pork, don’t stop!
And here is…

Aww, that’s so nice. I have been listening to this cd repeatedly.

Aww, that’s so cold. C’mon, it’s for charity.
