Yesterday, Juan A. Martinez Matos was “>officially charged with murder in the savage killing 19-year-old Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado. Bail for Matos was set at four million dollars.
Prosecutors are deciding whether to recommend that Martinez Matos be charged under the new federal hate crimes law.
As Matos was escorted from the court room, he passed the Mercado’s father and asked him for forgiveness. Mercado’s father responded, “It is not my place to forgive you, although I already have. You need to ask God for forgiveness.”

I have video on my blog and it’s astonishing. Matos is being lackadaisically escorted thru the public hallways, he’s having conversations with his victim’s parents and with Telemundo reporter, and some personal time with his parents.
If I didn’t know better, someone is trying desperately to have this case thrown out on technicality’s….and we’re no where even close to having even a pretrial yet.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Mercados. The strength and humanity that Mr. Mercado displayed in his “forgiveness” response, it that of which angels are made.
