Ken Keechl has been elected Mayor of Broward County for 2009-2010. Serving Broward’s District 4 as Commissioner, Keechl was elected unanimously by the Board of County Commissioners to lead Broward’s 1.8 million residents.
As the highest-ranking openly gay Mayor in the country, Mayor Keechl will champion the rights of all people. He has been recognized for truly making a difference in the lives of his constituents, supporting policies and laws that protect the civil rights and liberties of all Americans.
Mayor Keechl is a native Floridian who has spent his career protecting the rights and values of Broward County residents. He graduated from Florida State University’s Law School in 1987. He has served on the Individual Rights and Responsibilities Committee of the Florida Bar, which focuses on civil rights issues, including those facing minorities, the elderly, and the disabled.
Great news. Especially with the Conservative attacks being launched against Houston mayoral candidate Annise Parker.
