HRC, ESPA, Major LGBT Figures Pull Out Of DNC LGBT Fundraiser

Tue, Jun 16, 2009 by AKA William

dnclgbtfundraiserNext week, Joe Biden is scheduled to attend the 10th Annual LGBT Leadership Council Dinner — the $1000 a plate fundraiser for the DNC.

But, in response to the Obama administration’s stonewalling of LGBT issues and, of course, the remarkably offensive Dept. of Justice DOMA marriage brief, many of our major LGBT organizations, leaders, and prominent members are pulling out of the fundraiser. These include:

HRC’s National Field Director Marty Rouse
Empire State Pride Agenda’s Alan Van Capelle
Former top Clinton aide David Mixner
Former top Clinton aide Richard Socarides
Towleroad’s Andy Towle and Corey Johnson

Still slated to attend are Barney Frank, Tammy Baldwin and Jared Polis. Pam’s House Blend and Americablog’s John Aravosis are asking us to write to them to, politely, ask why they are still attending. (Polis did issue a statement today condemning Obama’s decision to defend DOMA.)

And the Washington Blade will be staking out the fundraiser next week and will have a reporter with a camera and video at the hotel entrance to record guests as they enter.
