Vin CNN’s iReport comes horrible news out of Puerto Rico that a young gay Puerto Rican man, Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado, was brutally murdered over the weekend and his body mutilated:

I [Christopher Pagan] am writing to you about a tragic murder that has happened here in Puerto Rico. It has really only made local news simply because we are on this island, but you are the voice of those that are unheard throughout the world. On November 14 the body of a gay 19 year old was found a few miles away from the town in which he was residing in called Caguas. He was a very well known person in the gay community of Puerto Rico, and very loved. He was found on the site of an isolated road in the city of Cayey, he was partially burned, decapitated, and dismembered, both arms, both legs, and the torso.
Worse, the police officer handling the investigation told the local television station (translated), “People like this, who do this, need to know this will happen to them.”
Leading gay rights activist and spokesman Pedro Julio Serrano said, “It is unthinkable that the investigator would blame the murder victim. It’s like the absurd argument that a woman deserves to be raped for wearing a short skirt.”
Serrano went on to call for a condemnation of the investigator’s words and for Superintendent Figueroa Sancha to replace him with someone capable of investigating the horrible murder without prejudice.
More information on this as it comes in.
