Via Joe.My.God and SFGate, James Dobson, one of the architects of a rabidly anti-gay national evangelical movement, has resigned as chairman of Focus On The Family, which he founded thirty years ago. Dobson is stepping down to make room for the next generation of ant-gay bigotry, but he’s still got bigotry of his own to get done:
Dobson, 72, will continue to host Focus on the Family’s flagship radio program, write a monthly newsletter and speak out on moral issues, Daly said. Dobson’s resignation as board chairman “lessens his administrative burden” and is the latest step in a succession plan, the group said. Dobson began relinquishing control six years ago by stepping down as president and CEO. “One of the common errors of founder-presidents is to hold to the reins of leadership too long, thereby preventing the next generation from being prepared for executive authority,” Dobson said in a statement. “

With an annual budget of $128M, Focus On The Family devotes a large portion of its activity to funding anti-gay ballot initiatives and challenging legally mandated LGBT rights in court. The group deliberately bleeds funds from LGBT groups forced to defend legal challenges. Don’t expect Dobson’s stepping down as chairman to have the slightest change in their evil doings.
I have to believe that this next generation pf Focus on the Family is in the same mold of Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal — outdated and outnumbered.
