ESPN’s Homophobic Ad Video

Mon, Feb 2, 2009 by AKA William

Every gay blogger in the world right now is up in arms over the homophobic ad featured on ESPN, as well we should be.

This is especially unfortunate because, as After Elton writes, it involves two usually reliably un-homophobic areas:

“Great, another ad playing on the idea that men being affectionate with each other is something objectionable. So objectionable that it provokes Shaq to call it ‘weird’ and ‘disgusting’ and causes him to move away. What were you thinking ESPN? That being said, keep in mind, that ESPN has a pretty good record on gay issues and that Shaq himself helped chase down some gay-bashers a couple of years ago and has stated he’d protect a gay teammate.”

All of the gay blogging biggies have written on this today:

Joe.My.God – Joe. My. God.: ESPN Launches Homophobic Commercial
Americablog – ESPN’s homophobic NBA ad
Towleroad – ESPN Produces NBA Shaq Ad with Homophobic Undertones.
After Elton – Is ESPN’s latest NBA ad homophobic ? | AfterElton.com

Almost every site has had their YouTube video of the ad disabled, but After Elton is using a separate player, so the video above should be safe. Also, Page One Q has their own version, but it’s not embeddable, but you can head over and watch it there if the video gets disabled for some reason.
