Via Towleroad:

Confidential sources close to San Francisco City Hall told Towleroad’s Corey Johnson that the California Supreme Court was prepared to release its opinion on Proposition 8 tomorrow, but decided to delay the ruling after a call from Mayor Gavin Newsom.
“Newsom reached out to the Supreme Court and asked them to hold off releasing their decision so it did not coincide with the White Night riots,” said our source.
Earlier, when it looked like the Court was going to issue its ruling, I wrote that Friday is Harvey Milk’s birthday – he would have turned 79. And, tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of the White Nights Riots — the riots that took place in San Francisco after Harvey Milk’s and Mayor George Moscone’s murderer, Dan White, was sentenced to just 7 years (later reduced to 5) in prison.
I gotta say this makes a lot of sense to me because there was all kinds of buzz today that tomorrow would be the day. And we probably owe Gavin Newsom a thank you for stepping in and preempting what could have been a very ugly night.
UPDATE: As much sense as it seem to make, and as good as Towleroad is, SF Mayor Gavin Newsom did not step in to ask the CA Supreme Court to delay its Prop 8 announcement.
