Good news so far . . .

The California State Assembly today passed the Harvey Milk Day bill by a 45-27 vote. The bill, authored by Senator Mark Leno (D – San Francisco) and sponsored by Equality California (EQCA), calls for a “day of special significance” in honor of slain civil rights leader Harvey Milk.
The bill has already passed the Senate with a 24-14 bipartisan vote. The bill now returns to the Senate for a routine concurrence vote before it advances to Governor Schwarzenegger’s desk. Schwarzenegger vetoed a similar bill last year.
State Senator Mark Leno, who originally introduced the bill said, “Although he vetoed a similar bill last year with the message that Harvey Milk should be recognized only at the local level, I am confident Governor Schwarzenegger now understands the historic and international nature of Harvey’s legacy.”
Also, President Obama did posthumously honor Harvey Milk with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and Schwarzenegger announced that Milk will be inducted into the California Hall of Fame, which was conceived by the First Lady Maria Shriver.
Also, make sure to listen to Dustin Lance Black’s moving testimonyon why Harvey Milk Day is so important.

If you live in California and want Governor Schwarzenegger to hear that you’re in support of Harvey Milk Day, give him a ring at 916-445-2841. You won’t have to speak with someone; all you have to do is push a couple of buttons and your vote will be recorded.
Please make a call if you think Milk matters!
