It looks like the British Royal family (or its spokespeople) might know what’s what:
Scotland Yard is looking to hire 30 more officers for the elite SO14 royal protection squad but have caused outrage by saying applications from women, lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender and ethnic minority officers are “particularly welcomed” as they are under represented in the unit.
One unnamed officer blasted to Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: “Who cares whether you’re gay or straight or have had a sex op? It should be about being able to do the job.”
A spokesperson said: “In units where particular groups are under represented, applicants are particularly encouraged from minority communities. However, all selection is based on merit.”
As I read through this, I kept thinking of a gay 007-type. Hot, elite, guard? Yes, sir.
