The big LGBT legal organizations — Lambda Legal, ACLU LBGT, and NCLR –who originally condemned the American Foundation for Equal Rights Olson – Boies federal challenge to Prop 8 eventually changed their minds and offered their support for the lawsuit.
Now that the lawsuit has been fast-tracked, these legal organizations want to join in on all the fun — they now want to be included in the Prop 8 lawsuit so they’ve filed a motion to be a part of the goings-on “to have the benefit of the presence of the community in all its diversity.”
But the Olson – Boies boys ain’t having it! In response, they issued this smackdown:
On behalf of the plaintiffs and our board, donors and supporters, I am writing to ask that you not intervene in Perry v. Schwarzenegger.
“Given our willingness to collaborate with you, and your efforts to undercut this case, we were surprised and disappointed when we became aware of your desire to intervene.
“You have unrelentingly and unequivocally acted to undermine this case even before it was filed. In light of that, it is inconceivable that you would zealously and effectively litigate this case if you were successful in intervening. Therefore, we will vigorously oppose any motion to intervene.”
Ouch.
