Yesterday was the special election to fill the California’s 10th District seat vacated by DADT-repeal leader Ellen Tauscher, who recently accepted an appointment Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security.
Anthony Woods, the gay black Iraq war veteran, had received a number of high-profile endorsements, but failed in his bid to capture the seat:

Anthony Woods, the Iraq War veteran who launched an energetic and historic campaign to become the first openly gay African American elected to Congress, lost his bid to represent the 10th Congressional district in the East Bay Area near San Francisco on Tuesday, finishing fourth among Democratic candidates with 8% of the vote.
Lieutenant governor John Garamendi, a frontrunner throughout the race, captured the Democratic nomination.
Still, Woods managed to announce himself as an up-and-coming gay politician.
