Folks, it’s here! The new AKA William feature I have been working on is here. I give you Spotlight!

And, first, let me say, “Whew!” Creating it was a little more . . . epic than I was expecting. But totally worth it.

Second, let me tell you what Spotlight is. It’s a whole new site, and its content is entirely reader-generated. Meaning: You got something to share? Share it . . . on Spotlight!

Since I first launched AKA William I’ve wanted a section where I could very quickly post and link to all of the stories that I didn’t have a chance to write about in full during the day. But I couldn’t figure out how to really make it work, so I sorta gave up.

Then, about a month or so ago, I got sick. And I could barely read let alone post, and I kept thinking, “There’s so much news going on, and I’m missing all of it! I wish I had a feature that would let readers post in my place . . . .”

And, in a cold-medicine trance, the idea for Spotlight was born. Now, when come across an article you want to share? Post it! Write a blog post you want more of the world to know about? Post it! Come across a pic of a hot guy? Post it! (Please.) Think someone’s Tweet is funny? Post it!

Also, I owe a debt of gratitude to QueerClick’s Sticky (site NSFW). As I worked on Spotlight over the past month, it came to inadvertently resemble Sticky (which I deeply love). Convergent evolution and all that, sure, but I wanted to acknowledge the great guys of QueerClick. And their porn-y mind-control!

Okay, so, I’ve kept Spotlight clean, simple, and really easy to use. Remember, all of the content is generated by you folks, so the more submissions the better! So, if you want to just browse, please do. That’s what it’s for! And if you want to post, you’ll need to register in order to help keep the spambots at bay. (But don’t worry, it takes about three seconds to do.)

So go check my new Spotlight baby out! Because the Spotlight is always better when you share it. (Just ask Beyonce and Taylor.)
