AKA William Now Optimized For iPhone, Other Touch-Screeniness!

Fri, Jul 31, 2009 by AKA William

demo_iconFolks, the rollout of the new AKA William feature took a little more time today than I thought (imagine that . . . ), but it’s here! Yup. AKA William is now optimized for iPhone, iTouch, Google’s Android, and the Blackberry Storm — basically, any fully touch-based phone (I haven’t tested it on the new Palm Pre, but I think it’ll work on that one, too).

I’m really excited about this! (Did you see the AKA William iPhone icon in the pic? Love it! I’ll tell you how to get it in a bit.)

Okay, so what does this mean, exactly? Well, it means that these phones will load AKA William really quickly and automatically in an optimized format. Even better, you won’t have to go to a different website to get optimized. All you have to do is type in “akawilliam.com” into your phone’s browser, and you’re good to go. Really quickly!

AND, if you don’t have have one of the phones mentioned above, you can still visit akawilliam.com on your phone’s browser, and you’ll be taken directly to the regular site, and it should load pretty quickly for you, too.

How great is that? Everyone can get all kinds of gay even more easily now!

Did I mention that I’m really excited about this? I’ve been working the past few weeks on getting the code for this just right . . . and after some long nights, I think I got there.

Okay, after the jump, I have some screenshots explaining what’s what in the new format, show you how to Tweet posts from an optimized post, and a bunch of other cooooool stuff. Check out my optimizedness!

photoOkay, this is the page you will be taken to when you come to AKA William on your iPhone, iTouch, Android, and Blackberry Storm (and probably Palm Pre.) You have some options here.

See the little arrow at the top, to the right of “AKA William?” If you press that you’ll get a drop-down list of the AKA William pages — those are the “Contact Us” and “Tips” and “Advertise” pages that appear at the very top of the regular AKA William site. You’ll also find the “search” field here that’ll let you search all of AKA William.

Also, on the second lighter strip just below that you can see “Categories.” If you press that, you’ll get a scroll wheel of all the categories available on AKA William. These correspond to the buttons that light up blue on the regular site — “Movies” and “Music” and “Guys” and the others.

You can click on the title of the post to be taken to that post. And, see that little arrow at the top of each entry? If you press that you’ll see an excerpt of the post – if you like what you see and want to see more click the “Read the full post” link that appears at the bottom of the excerpt. If you don’t like what you see (which will never ever happen, right?) just press the little arrow again. The excerpt will disappear, and you can keep on scrolling to more posts.

Please check out my iPhone app, “Gay Quotes.”
Images of global events, noteworthy places, historic plaques and monuments are overlaid with the words of those past and present who have played a part in standing up for what matters most, human rights – the right to be who you are and the right to celebrate it.

Maybe you already know that there’s a Gay Pride parade in Jerusalem, or that there’s a sculpture in N.Y.C. dedicated to the Stonewall Inn uprising or that Plato was an interesting guy. Even if you do, it’s nice to be reminded that not only are you not alone, you never were.
Gay Quotes? There’s an app for that.

Need an idea for a toast? Raise your drink and begin with a quotation.
Want a witty comeback? Snap back a sassy saying.
Like to ease a tense moment? Recite a thoughtful verse.
Trying to tell someone how you feel? Rely on a meaningful passage.
Tired of hearing the same old wine and complaint? Offer advice with a few wise words.
    Entertaining and educational.

Play ‘Gay Trivia’ by covering up the top bar and see who can correctly identify the popular hot spot, well-known figure or historic monument.
